Tasting Comment:

Mars Shinshu distillery is located high in the Japanese Alps in Nagano Prefecture at around 800m above sea level.

Pure mineral water from the mountain is used for whisky making and the distillery is surrounded with beautiful clean air.

Short hot summers encourage maturation, and long cold winter gives whisky slow and gentle maturation as well as a break.   Selected single malt are blended to create this 2020 edition. Very limited bottling.

Whisky aged in sherry casks and American white oak makes up the expression of this whisky.

Ripe prune, sweet acacia honey and vanilla on the nose and initial orange flavour on the palate followed by the soft bitterness of cacao with a soft mouthfeel.   Long and clean finish with lingering elegant sweetness.

The landscape of Mars Shinshu distillery which is opening in autumn in 2020 can be seen the front label to celebrate this special occasion and whisky.
